Empeiria (2015)

Empeiria is an interactive, six-channel sound installation: a synthesized raindrop sound plays from each speaker every two seconds. This sound was produced on a vintage Buchla 300 analogue synthesizer. The potentiometers on top of Empeiria's nucleus control the rhythmic phase of these raindrops, and each controls the speaker that it is closest to. When these raindrops are close enough in phase, they are perceived as reverberation or echo, generating a fictitious sense of space. The title, Empeiria, refers to the experience of learning from observation.
