Turn On, Tune In is a retro-futuristic portrayal of the role of a sound designer 25 years from now. In this speculative future, listeners subscribe to a real-time sound experience, and a sound designer is commissioned to curate a synthetic soundscape that will enhance one's experience of the environment they are in. Using a simple gesture of tapping twice above the ear, a listener connects to a human sound designer, who observes the listener's behaviours through an IoT brain-computer interface that broadcasts what the listener sees. Like many professions, sound designers are faced with issues of competing with automated technology. Artificial Intelligence cannot replace artistic style, nor does it understand the phenomenological experience of an environment.
